5th of May

“Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle?”

If you want to party then do so to mark the achievement of Astronaut Alan Shepard, who on May 5, 1961, was blasted into space to become the first American in space. At one point during a 3 1/2 hour delay, Shepard ‘suggested’ to mission control, “Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle?” and with that, history was made. Read more HERE as you raise a glass of Corona, no, make that a Yuengling and toast the beginning of our space program. Ten years later, Shepard would walk on the moon!

october 1, 2023

Two hundred eighty names were added to the Walls of Honor this year. For NYPD Emergency Service, it was our second year of adding the names of members who served our Country. Forty more names, seventy eight in total, with service ranging from World War Two through  to current times. A perfect weather day . . .
